Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA)

About the Interstital Cystitis Association
The ICA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1984. Since its inception, the ICA has functioned as an international support center for IC sufferers and an education force within the medical community and the government. The ICA is dedicated to helping thousands of IC sufferers worldwide. As with most chronic diseases, medical intervention is only part of the solution. Patients who have accurate up-to-date information, peer and family support, and who actively participate in their own treatment, as well as advocacy for funding and research, become vital partners in their own health management. The ICA's award-winning website at www.ichelp.org receives over one million visits per month.

Over the past two decades, the ICA has made a remakable difference in the support, research and treatment of IC by thousands of physicians who can now more quickly diagnose and treat patients, and through ongong advocacy efforts, has increased research funding by Congress and the National Institutes of Health from zero to more than $30 million. The ICA is the only nonprofit health associated dedicated to improvingthe quality of healthcare and lives of people living with IC.

The ICA's mission is:

  • To provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on IC.
  • To provide IC patients, their families and friends with a support network.
  • To educate the medical community and the public about IC.
  • To advocate in the public and private sectors for research funding and patients' rights.
  • To promote and provide research funding to find effective treatments and a cure for IC.
  • To work closely with Congress and the NIDDK to ensure ongoing research at the Federal level.
