For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Helping Those Who Help Patients

An artist and cancer survivor of more than 40 years, Jenean LaCorte began a second career as a medical tattooist after her sister-in-law underwent a bilateral mastectomy as part of breast cancer treatment.

After seeking certification through Penn Medicine’s Sauler Institute, LaCorte today runs Restorative Tattoos, a North Carolina practice focusing on 3-D nipple tattoos, areola repigmentation, and scar camouflage. Not just a cosmetic procedure, the tattoos represent the intersection of medicine and art. More importantly, they can help breast cancer patients regain a part of what they’ve lost, LaCorte said in an interview

“Scars have a lot of weight to them, and you don’t necessarily realize how much of a burden it’s been on your shoulders until you can find some sort of resolution,” LaCorte said. “This is a part of you that is missing. You wouldn’t tell someone who had an arm or a leg removed that it was vain of them to have an arm or a leg put back on.”

Desert Harvest has also committed to supporting breast cancer patients in their journey through radiation and recovery. Our Releveum® skin repair cream helps patients undergoing radiation therapy recover from radiation dermatitis—the redness, flaking, peeling, and pain that’s all too common a side effect of radiation.

Reveleum® is an all-natural, patented formula including lidocaine, organic aloe vera, and calendula. It offers pain relief and intensive skin repair and healing from the skin irritations, dryness, and tissue damage associated with radiation dermatitis, as well as a host of other conditions, including chemical burns, eczema, psoriasis, shingles, vulvodynia, lichens sclerosis/planus, Sjogren’s, insect bites/stings, poison ivy/oak, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, and peripheral neuropathy/nerve pain. It can even provide relief from the temporary irritation from tattoos like the ones LaCorte creates.

We’re proud to help breast cancer patients, and in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Desert Harvest will donate 25 percent of proceeds from our Releveum® skin repair cream to help Restorative Tattoos provide tattoos to patients who otherwise couldn’t afford treatment. It’s a small thing that we hope will make a big difference in people’s lives.
